Best Season to Visit Varkala

Winter Season is considered as the best time to visit Varkala. The months between October to March are ideal for trip to Varkala. Monsoon season is also preferred for a vacation in Varkala, while the Summer Season should be highly avoided due to the climatic condition of this place.

How to Reach Varkala

By Road:

Varkala is situated at the distance of 11 Km from the National Highway 66. State Highway 64 also connects between Varkala and Madathara.

By Air:

The nearest airport is the Trivandrum International Airport, which lies 39 Km away from Varkala.

By  Train:

The nearest Railway station to reach Varkala is Varkala Sivagiri Railway Station. Varkala Sivagiri Railway Station is well connected with all the major places in India.

Varkala Beach:

Varkala Beach can be called as a paradise for people who love beaches and sun bathing. Varkala Beach is one of the best beaches found in Kerala. The beautiful views of sunset and sunrise will leave you mesmerized with its beauty. You can sight many restaurants and resorts.

Varkala Tunnel:

The Varkala Tunnel is very famous amongst the tourists and it is about 151 years old. It took 14 years of time to built this tunnel. The Varkala Tunnel is 924 ft long. Another Tourist attraction of Varkala is the Varkala Lighthouse.

Janardhan Swamy Temple:

Varkala is quite famous for its Janardhan Swamy Temple, which is said to be 2,018 years old. The Janardhan Swamy Temple is also called as Dakshin Kashi. The Papanasam beach is nearby to this place. The devotees take a bath in the Papanasam Beach to wash away their sins.

Sivagiri Mutt:

Sivagiri Mutt was established by Sree Narayana Guru, who was a social reformer. Sivagiri Mutt is a famous Ashram situated in Varkala. There is a Masoleum of Sree Guru Narayana at the top of a hill, which is also quite popular.


Attingal is famous amongst the visitors due to its beauty. Anchuthengu Fort is another ancient fort that is famous, it is 10 Kms away from the main town of Attingal. The famous Temple Avanavanchery Sri Indilayappan Temple is also situated in the Attingal District.


Kadakkavur is a developing town in the district of Varkala with many religious centres.


Cheerayinkuzhu is one of the best places to visit in Kerala. Sarkara Devi Temple is located in Cheeryinkuzhu and It is famous for two festivals that are celebrated there. The Kaliyoot festival and the Meena Bharani Festival.

Paravur is another beautiful asset of Varkala. It’s quite famous for the back waters and is located at the distance of 13 Kms awat from the mainland of Varkala. It shares its border with Trivandrum. Kappil Lake:

Kappil Lake is 4 Kms away from the mainland of Varkala. Kappil Lake is all surrounded by the beautiful coconut Trees. Kappil Lake merges into the Arabian Sea. Visitors can indulge in the activity of Boating. This lake is quite popular due to its picturesque beauty of nature.

Anjengo Fort:

Anjengo Fort is located near the Varkala district. Anjengo Fort is famous for its beauty and its historic value. Anjengo Fort was used by the East India Company to establish their first trade settlement in kerala. The Anjengo Fort is now protected under the protection of National Heritage Monuments.
